About
What up dawg? also known as Wud up dawg? according to the urban dictionary means “What’s going on?” That is what this blog is all about, what’s going on. I teach 6th grade language arts at Escobedo Middle Scool, home of the boxers, in the Northwest Region of Las Vegas. The title refers to our mascot as well as to what is happening.
I hope to use this space to discover what happens in a classroom that utilizes blogging. I want to post writing of my own, student writing, and assignments that students will have. In addition, I would like to post teacher resources that can be used by other teachers.
A Little History
I have been working on using technology in the classroom for the past year under the umbrella of a technology grant. This role as a technology leader has taken me to places that are new experiences and has created a huge learning curve for me. Everything I have tried has taken hours of time because it is all so new to me, but I just jump in and experiment. I have found that trial and error results in a lot more error than success. The good thing is that I have had some success.
Personal Information
My blog can be found in edublogs.org using the name newdeal. I use this name instead of my own name because I wasn’t sure if I would be safe posting my writing on the web. When I make comments on this blog and others, it shows up as newdeal. I chose that pen name because blogging is a new deal for me. I haven’t used a blog until this year. Now I wouldn’t want to be without one.
Actually I am a mother of 2 adult children, a girl and a boy. They both have graduated from college and have jobs. My husband and I moved to Las Vegas from Nebraska 5 years ago for the weather and new jobs. I write about my family in posts and my personal stories which appear on the writing page.

G’day,
I noticed you had put your class blog on the list at the Edublogger and I was wondering if you and your class might be interested in taking part in a student blogging challenge for a ten week period starting in March 2009?
A new activity would be put on my class blog http://wyatt67.edublogs.org every week for students to have a go at. It would involve writing comments, writing posts, improving their blog, visiting other students’ blogs and so on. Students can do as much or as little of the activities as you or they have time for.
You can register either a class blog or each student can register their own blog if they have them. Please register here: http://wyatt67.edublogs.org/2009/01/18/a-new-year-means-a-new-challenge/
Students who took part in the challenge last year are running a collaborative blog with their teachers here: http://studentfriends.edublogs.org
Last year we had nearly 500 students from nine countries of the world taking part.
